Mustang

Mustang is a beautiful district in Nepal. Its headquarters is Jomsom. Its area is 3,573 km². It sits in the the Himalayas and extends northward onto the Tibetan plateau where lies the former Lo Kingdom of Mustang. The Marsyangdi River is in the east of Mustang and to the west lays the world’s deepest gorge, carved out by the wild waters of the Kaligandaki.Upper Mustang trek, Jomsom Muktinath Trek, Damodar Kunda Trekking, Lower Mustang trekking are the popular trekking routes in Mustang. In addition to trekking to Lo Kingdom (“Upper Mustang”) and the Annapurna Circuit in lower Mustang, the region is also famous for Muktinath yatra and Marpha brandy. Except late December to beginning of March, rest other months, including October and November are recommended for trek. The month of May often holds a famous festival of Tiji. Mustang is a lost kingdom of Tibet. Even htough it is a part of Nepal now, all of its cultures, reties and festivities are purely Tibetan. This district is famous for tourism, trade and animal husbandry. The homes of Gurungs is in the lowlands, the hospitality of Thakalis around Jomsom, Manangis in the east and Tibetans in the arid north.
